Gym Rules & Policy

What should I bring to class?

For Gi classes, bring a clean gi and belt. For No Gi or beginners classes, wear gym clothes or No Gi kit (rashguard and shorts/spats). A bottle of water is recommended.

When should I get my own gi?

If you plan to attend Gi classes regularly, we recommend getting your own gi early on. We’re happy to advise on what to buy.

What if I can’t make evening classes?

We currently run most group classes in the evening. Morning sessions may be available through private lessons.

How are classes structured?

All classes follow a structured weekly programme, covering stand-up, ground techniques, and controlled drilling or sparring.

Beginners

Do I need any previous experience?

No experience is needed. Most of our members started from scratch, and our beginner classes are designed to help you build confidence from day one.

What happens in a typical class?

All classes follow a structured format. You’ll start with a warm-up, then learn techniques and drills, followed by optional sparring to apply what you’ve learned.

Do I have to spar?

No. Sparring is always optional, especially for beginners. You can take your time and join in when you feel ready.

What should I bring to my first class?

Just bring comfortable gym clothes (t-shirt and shorts or sweatpants) and a bottle of water. If you’re attending a Gi class, you can speak to us about borrowing or purchasing one.

Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu safe?

Yes. Safety is a priority in all classes. Training is controlled and supervised, and you’ll learn how to train safely with your partners.

Do you offer a free trial?

Yes, you can book a free trial session and see if it’s right for you before committing.
